5 November ~2008
I am truly hopeful for our future, at least in the next four or eight years. The last eight have been awful tough, with the steady assault on environmental protections and the lackluster approach to solutions to climate change by the Republicans - not good for those who realize our children's future depends on how we handle these issues.I had gone up to see my daughter Amy compete in agility with her border collie Drift. Alyssa wanted to see Barack Obama, as did me and Mom, and around 1pm we headed over to the CSU campus for his 3:30 talk.
So did a bunch of other people. Mom was never going to make it to the end of the line, which I later heard was 2 1/2 miles long. Some nice people let us in near the front, and we got to see and hear Obama talk fairly close up. Their were a lot of young people present, and the crowd was infused with energy and optimism. At the end we went over to the east side to see Obama walk to the bus, and I took the shot above of the crowd leaving. It is one of my favorite photos ever.
On Tuesday night, listening to Obama's acceptance speech, I was awful damn proud of my country. This is the only place where someone like him, raised by a single mother, could go on to graduate first in his Harvard class, and become the next President of the United States. (<--click link).
