28 October ~ 2007
I made it to the Rose right after the band finished their first set. It seemed a little slow, perhaps because I had built this evening up in my mind, based on the fun and excitement of past years.I got to dance a lot though, and enjoyed the ones with ladies in costumes most. One woman had a red devil dress on, and had to hold it up with one hand because it was so tight around her knees and ankles. I was worried I would step on the huge spreading dress with petticoats of the southern belle (Scarlet Ohara?). I liked spinning with her and seeing her big dress spread out.
I asked a tall blonde in a referee outfit to dance. She was hesitant and only agreed when I said I would show her how. She said she went to college in Texas and they did the twostep differently down there, but that I was a good leader. I was surprised at the end when she said she hasnt had that much fun in a long time. (considering how gorgeous she was). Later I realized she was on the job - working for Miller Lite as a promotional hostess. My mistake was understandable considering it was a Halloween party and all.
Two ladies came up with very creative costumes. One was Medusa, and had twenty or thirty rubber snakes attached to her head. She walked gingerly, as if the massive snake hat could teeter off. I didn't ask her to dance because of that, but danced with her Greek sister, who was in a wild party mood. Her purple angel wings made it hard to hold her right hand, but we made do fine, since she was a good dancer and right on the beat. I told her that she and her friend had the best costumes. She said she put them both together herself.
At 1:15 the band played 8-second ride, (enter userid of 'music' and pw of 'music') and it was my good fortune to have a partner that could do a fast triple step and was spirited and talented (and young and beautiful). It was a perfect end to another good halloween night at the Rose.
I probably take for granted all the excitement and passion I have with these ladies. I know it would be hard to give it up and dance with one woman all evening.
I wonder if that is part of the reason my relationships never last for long - that down deep I know if I got what I thought I wanted it would be pretty boring.
