I started right in building a sun screen out of plywood for Joe the horse, down past the big barn. I worked quickly, wanting to get as much done as I could ahead of the thunderstorn moving off the foothills. The air had the smell of moisture on newly cured grass. I felt a few drops of rain hit my back through my tshirt.I didn't work so hard that I couldn't look up now and again and gaze at the cowgirls feeding hay in the pasture. A slender woman with muscular arms and a strapped top and blond hair tied up rode in the back of the pickup. She tossed hay out of the bed as thunder cracked from the approaching storm.
