24 April ~2008
Today was another warm spring day. I had a nature program at Barr Lake, so I stayed home in the morning and didn't go into work until 1pm, after the program. I then worked until after 7 to make up most of the time. It has been a full day.My group was small, and the walk along the lake very enjoyable. We heard pheasants calling off to the east, watched several hawks flying overhead, and saw the first blossoms of wild plum and golden currant. I caught a big and very calm Bull Snake who tolerated being held while all the children got a close look at him.
I got back just as one of the other naturalists was finishing up with their group, and realized what different styles we have. Some try to teach the children something, and that is fine. I like to let nature be the teacher, and by walking a long ways allow the children to discover on their own, and then step in quietly and offer an explanation so that they are learning without even realizing it.
It was a good day. I am very grateful to be alive and healthy to fully enjoy this spring season.
