2 March ~2008

Yesterday it was 74 degrees.  Today it barely made 30.  We had snow most of the day, and strong wind, which made it a dangerous storm.

Me and the dogs went up to the foothills first thing this morning.  That was  not exactly at the crack of dawn, since I was out at the Grizzly Rose until after 1am.

It was a good night at the Rose.  The band played well and there were a lot of ladies to dance with.  I think the smoking ban that is in its second year has resulted in more women coming out to dance.  The ones that would stay away because of the smoky atmosphere now include it in their Saturday entertainment options.

I have gone back to my old habit of not dropping in until after 10pm.  By then everybody is there and the ladies are in the mood to dance, having had a drink or two.  Those fast triple steps with athletic ladies are what I go for.  There is nothing like the freedom of rapidly gliding around the floor with the right kind of woman - one with fire in her heart, who knows how to move.  I have learned a thing or two from the 18 or so years I have been doing this, and that is a lot of the reason why I enjoy it so much.

But, as I said, me and the dogs went up to hike at the edge of the foothills.  We didn't go far, but Ben and Maggie got plenty of exercise.  I had trouble getting up to the rock spine of the ridge, because I couldn't tell where the rocks were with the layer of snow on top.  Ben and Maggie went up to the edge though, and Ben exhibited his fearless nature again - standing on ice peering over a 100 foot drop, a foot away.

There was a time a few years ago when we were hiking above timberline that I leashed him, because he trotted around on the edge of a 1,000 foot precipice like it was 10 feet.  I couldn't take it any longer.  Both dogs are sure-footed, and probably as agile as a wolf would be up high.
